Read 2 Chronicles 2 in context

Scripture Focus

1And Solomon determined to build an house for the name of the LORD, and an house for his kingdom.
2And Solomon told out threescore and ten thousand men to bear burdens, and fourscore thousand to hew in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them.
3And Solomon sent to Huram the king of Tyre, saying, As thou didst deal with David my father, and didst send him cedars to build him an house to dwell therein, even so deal with me.
4Behold, I build an house to the name of the LORD my God, to dedicate it to him, and to burn before him sweet incense, and for the continual shewbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts of the LORD our God. This is an ordinance for ever to Israel.
2 Chronicles 2:1-4

Biblical Context

Solomon resolves to build a house for the Name of the LORD and a house for his kingdom. He organizes workers and materials to dedicate it with continual worship.

Neville's Inner Vision

Solomon's plan to build a house for the Name of the LORD is your invitation to build an inner temple in consciousness. I decide in myself to erect a dwelling where the I AM can reign as ruler of my life. In this inner temple my kingdom is established as divine order, and all my mental energies are directed toward its maintenance. The numbers of laborers and overseers signify the disciplined movements of thought and will that support steadfast worship. When I send to Huram, I am inviting the higher craftsmanship of inner wisdom to supply the materials of truth and beauty, just as your outer craft supplies the stone. I build a house to the name of the LORD my God and dedicate it to Him, burn incense of gratitude, and feed the inner temple with daily bread of truth morning and evening, on the sabbath and the new moon. This ordinance forever is my inward reality, enduring as long as I remain aware.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and assume the state that you already dwell in the inner temple. Repeat I am the temple of the Name of the LORD within me, and feel the presence of divine order settling into your life; then commit to a brief daily ritual of quiet worship to nourish that temple.
