Read 1 Timothy 5 in context

Scripture Focus

1Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;
2The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.
1 Timothy 5:1-2

Biblical Context

It instructs not to rebuke an elder but to entreat him as a father; younger men as brethren, elder women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, all with purity.

Neville's Inner Vision

In the inner laboratory of your mind, the elder, the younger, the mother, and the sister are not distant persons but stations of consciousness. When you hear a rebuke toward the elder, you are hearing an old pattern in transition, a state you can outgrow. Instead, invite the elder as a father would welcome a child home: with patience, humor, and unwavering respect. The younger men are your still-acting impulses; greet them as brethren who walk beside you on the path. The elder women are your inner mothers; the younger women your sisters; maintain alignment of desire, thought, and conduct with purity. The command to “rebuke not” becomes a reminder to treat every aspect of your being with reverent care. As you assume the state of the world you wish to see, you discover that all relationships spring from your I AM awareness. When you feel the unity, events harmonize with your new inner arrangement, and life takes on a tone of quiet, loving authority. The outer scene reflects your inward order, and love of God moves through every relation.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Close your eyes and imagine the elder as a loving father within your mind; softly say, 'I entreat you with wisdom and respect.' Then picture the younger impulses standing beside you as brethren and sisters, united in pure intention, and feel the state of harmony now.
