Mercy, Pattern of Belief

1 Timothy 1:15-17 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 Timothy 1 in context

Scripture Focus

15This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
16Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.
17Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
1 Timothy 1:15-17

Biblical Context

Paul states that Christ came to save sinners, and he names himself the chief example. Mercy shown to him becomes a pattern for those who will believe, leading to life everlasting, while the eternal King is praised.

Neville's Inner Vision

In this text, the world you read is your inner state. Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; but in Neville's terms, the 'world' is your present field of consciousness, and 'Christ' is the active presence of your I AM awakening to freedom. When Paul declares he is chief of sinners, he is naming the strongest block in your mind—an imagined separation from the Life that you truly are. Mercy is the awakening that comes when you stop arguing with your own sense of limitation and allow the light of awareness to shine on it. 'Longsuffering' becomes the patience of your attention, slowly rewriting the image until it yields a new pattern: belief in life everlasting. The verse then points beyond time to the King eternal, the immutable I within you, the only wise God who is always present as your understanding. In this inner doxology, all glory is given to the I AM, and the sense of separation dissolves in the radiance of consciousness.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and imagine Christ entering your mind as the life current that saves. Say, 'I am saved,' and feel the eternal King filling every corner of your consciousness with gratitude.
