Sanctification by Imagination

1 Thessalonians 4:3-6 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 Thessalonians 4 in context

Scripture Focus

3For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:
4That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;
5Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:
6That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.
1 Thessalonians 4:3-6

Biblical Context

God's will here is your sanctification: abstain from fornication and learn to possess your vessel in sanctification and honor. Do not act in lust or defraud a neighbor, for the Lord is the avenger of such wrongs.

Neville's Inner Vision

Think of the verse as the map of your inner state. Sanctification is not a distant command but the steady I AM awareness governing every impulse. To deny fornication is to deny identification with the surge of desire; you are not the impulse but the witness who communes with the immutable you. To possess your vessel in sanctification and honor is to rule your responses from the consciousness that never compromises integrity for a momentary thrill. The lust of concupiscence represents a misreading of truth; the Gentiles who know not God are states of ignorance inside you, and your task is to wake to God within. When harm would be done to another, remember the Lord is the avenger of such acts—inner harmony returns when you live in alignment with your chosen state. Rest in the certainty that you can re-script the drama by assuming the sanctified self, allowing justice to rise from within as a natural consequence.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Assume the state now—declare I AM sanctified and feel it as real in your body. If temptation arises, revise by asserting I am the observer and act from that awareness.
