Sanctification by Imagination
1 Thessalonians 4:3 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read 1 Thessalonians 4 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
God's will is your sanctification, and you are to abstain from fornication. This points to inner purification expressed as pure conduct.
Neville's Inner Vision
To the inner listener, this verse does not bind you with rules from without, but invites you to awaken to who you are in the I AM. God’s will is not a distant commandment, but the state of consciousness you already inhabit. Sanctification is the gentle cleansing of your thoughts and desires until they reflect the kingly order within. Fornication, in this light, is any attachment to sensation that cripples your awareness of your divine sonship. When you assume the feeling of your true nature—pure, steadfast, beloved—you align your inner atmosphere with the will that creates. Your surrounding life then follows the motion of that inner state; you do not force change by effort, but revise your assumption about who you are. Each moment you choose inner purity, you reinforce the separation from lower cravings and step deeper into a holy cadence with the I AM. The command to abstain becomes a natural consequence of your realized sanctity.
Practice This Now
Practice this now: in stillness, assume you are already sanctified; feel the I AM as the sovereign you. When temptation arises, revise by silently declaring, 'I am sanctified,' and imagine a clear boundary around the craving.
