Turning From Idols Within
1 Thessalonians 1:9 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read 1 Thessalonians 1 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The verse shows an inner turning: the Thessalonians entered into life by turning away from idols and toward the living and true God. It presents conversion as a shift of consciousness rather than external ritual.
Neville's Inner Vision
Turn the phrase into your own experience: 'the manner of entering in' is the manner of awakening in consciousness. Idols are not carved images alone but beliefs that have held your attention as if they were real power—fear, lack, reputation, or separation. When you hear that they turned to God, understand that this is a turning of the eye of awareness from appearances to the I AM within. The Living God is less an external personality than the capacious, unconditioned Presence that animates you. To turn is to revise your sense of identity: from 'I am this body, this situation' to 'I am the I AM, the sovereign consciousness in which all images arise and pass.' Then the action of serving is simply living from that Presence, allowing it to guide every thought, feeling, and decision. The outer world of events will reflect the inner revision, for you are no longer dependent on idols but on the true and living reality of God within. This is faith as trust in the I AM, here and now.
Practice This Now
Practice: declare inwardly, 'I turn from idols to the living God within me,' and feel the I AM expanding to fill your experience; let this awareness guide your next thought, word, and action.
