The Banquet of Inner Election
1 Samuel 9:22-24 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read 1 Samuel 9 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Samuel seats Saul in the chief place among the invited, and the cook sets aside a portion for him. Saul then eats with Samuel, signaling Saul's election and the community's recognition.
Neville's Inner Vision
Consider the passage as a map of inner reality. The parlor and the chief seat are not a room and a chair, but the condition of your consciousness where you acknowledge your true standing. Saul’s elevation to the chief place mirrors the moment you affirm, in the I AM, that you are the one seen by God. The portion kept for Saul is the idea of your fulfilled role—energy and substance reserved in your own imagination until you claim them with certainty. Samuel, the higher self, calls, invites, and positions you; the cook is the inner function that prepares and apportions mental assets to your present state. When the cook places the shoulder before Saul and Samuel says, "eat," he is teaching that you must consume the belief that you are invited and valued. The phrase "unto this time hath it been kept for thee" means the self has hoarded a supply of life into your current awareness, waiting for your confident, felt assumption. The Presence of God is the awareness that you are already whole, and unity arises as you sit with the acknowledged self, sharing in a meal that confirms your rightful place in the inner order.
Practice This Now
Practice: Close your eyes and imagine Samuel inviting you to the chief seat, then feel the portion set before you and eat it in imagination. Let the feeling of being seen and chosen saturate your body until your next action confirms it in reality.
