Biblical Context
God reveals in advance that a man from Benjamin will be anointed to lead Israel and deliver them from the Philistines; Saul is identified as that man.
Neville's Inner Vision
Here, I hear the inner whisper of the I AM: a message that a man will reign over my inner Israel. This 'man' is not a mere historical figure but a state of consciousness awaiting its moment of recognition. The land of Benjamin and the office of captain over Israel symbolize a ruling principle within me—my inner governor that can save me from the Philistines of fear, shortage, and doubt. The cry of Israel's people is my own longing for salvation, heard by the I AM within me. The I AM has looked upon my cry, indicating I am ready to awaken to the inner ruler who can govern all thoughts and feelings. The 'Behold the man' is the instant of inner acknowledgment: I discover that the power to reign is already resident within me, waiting for my consent. When I allow this inner king to reign, outward troubles reflect the inner order, and my mind is led from confusion to victory by the captain I have chosen in consciousness. Foreordination becomes a joyful truth: I am already the ruler of my inner kingdom.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Sit in stillness and imagine the anointing as already yours—see yourself as the captain over your inner Israel, sovereign and fully awake; feel the assurance flood your heart as you acknowledge this ruling presence now.
