Read 1 Samuel 30 in context

Scripture Focus

22Then answered all the wicked men and men of Belial, of those that went with David, and said, Because they went not with us, we will not give them ought of the spoil that we have recovered, save to every man his wife and his children, that they may lead them away, and depart.
1 Samuel 30:22

Biblical Context

1 Samuel 30:22 portrays men who did not join David refusing to share the recovered spoil, except for their wives and children.

Neville's Inner Vision

Within Neville's view, the wicked men and Belial symbolize inner states, not external people. The spoil you recovered is your inner riches, the realization of your faithful intention. When some parts of your consciousness cry, 'they are not with us, therefore they shall not receive,' you are entertaining scarcity. The only 'wives and children' to save are the private corners you fear to expose to abundance; to keep them is to withhold your whole self from the unity of creation. The cure is simple: assume you are the one who has everything and that what is yours must circulate to all; revise any belief that generosity diminishes you. Imprint the feeling that abundance multiplies when it is shared; feel that all the parts of you and all your circles are fed by your inner plenitude. The moment you accept and invest the idea of universal provision, the 'spoil' ceases to be a private possession and becomes a shared blessing in your life.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Close your eyes and assume the state of universal provision, declaring, 'All that is mine is shared with all.' Feel the sense of unity and let generosity run through your life now.
