Apparition and Authority Within

1 Samuel 28:12-14 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 Samuel 28 in context

Scripture Focus

12And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul.
13And the king said unto her, Be not afraid: for what sawest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, I saw gods ascending out of the earth.
14And he said unto her, What form is he of? And she said, An old man cometh up; and he is covered with a mantle. And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground, and bowed himself.
1 Samuel 28:12-14

Biblical Context

Saul, seeking guidance, has the woman conjure Samuel; Samuel appears as an old man in a mantle, and Saul bows before this outward sign of authority rather than trusting his inner vision.

Neville's Inner Vision

The Endor scene is a projection of Saul's interior state. The 'apparition' is not a historical event but a movement of consciousness—an inner Samuel arising from Saul's fear and longing for external kingship. The old man with a mantle symbolizes an ancient inner authority Saul pretends to depend on for direction. The ascent of 'gods' from the earth shows that outward power is formed from the beliefs buried in the mind. To change the scene, recognize that you are the I AM, and that your inner Samuel is always present as your own decree. Do not seek a sign outside; rather, revise your state until the inner authority is acknowledged as already real. When you align with that inner king, the bowing and form will reflect your internal order, and outward events will follow your changed consciousness.

Practice This Now

Sit quietly, and imagine the inner Samuel as an authoritative figure within you. Feel the mantle of inner kingship settle on you and affirm, 'I am the I AM; I govern my world by consciousness.'
