Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
David and Jonathan seal a covenant before the LORD, pledging loyalty as David is promised kingship. Outside forces plot to betray him, but Saul blesses those who show mercy.
Neville's Inner Vision
Consider this scene as an interior drama. David stands as the I AM in you, choosing to reign in spite of the outer chaos. Jonathan is the loyal discernment within, the ally who refuses the old fear and signs the covenant before God. The covenant is not a contract between two men, but a decision of awareness: I will be ruled by my true desire, not by threats from the outside world. The hill and wood become symbols of the inner landscapes where thought and feeling move; the attempt to deliver David into the king's hand is the mind clinging to appearances, the belief that circumstance can defy the chosen fulfillment. Yet the clause 'the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee' is the inner assurance that the old self cannot touch the new state of consciousness. When Saul blesses the mercy shown by others, we glimpse the power that fortifies the inner throne. In your practice, the drama is ongoing: you can revise the sense of threat by affirming your kingly status now, and letting mercy toward others anchor your sovereignty.
Practice This Now
Assume the role of the I AM that reigns within: feel yourself crowned king of your life and stand in the covenant you and your inner Jonathan have sealed. Then sense your awareness secure on its throne, untouched by outward appearances.
