1 Samuel 23:16-17

Biblical Context

Jonathan, Saul's son, travels to David in the wilderness and strengthens his faith in God, assuring him that Saul cannot find him and that David will become king.

Neville's Inner Vision

To Neville, the scene is a drama of consciousness. The wood is your quiet mind; David is your new self arriving, crowned by awareness, not by swords. Jonathan is the ally within, that steadfast trust that says, Fear not, and that your old king (Saul) need not frighten the new state. When Jonathan says, the hand of Saul shall not find thee, he is declaring that the old self cannot reach the new act of awareness you are asserting. Thou shalt be king over Israel is the I AM announcing the sovereignty of your inner realm over outer appearances. I shall be next unto thee signals the mutual recognition of your two aspects - the wish and the realization - standing side by side in the mind. And that also Saul my father knoweth means even the old consciousness recognizes the truth you are claiming. Practice this: assume the feeling of the throne now; let the mind rest in the certainty that your future is already your present.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and feel the throne of your inner Israel. Silently repeat I am king now in my mind and let that certainty saturate your days.
