Inner Covenant Of Loyalty

1 Samuel 20:1-4 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 Samuel 20 in context

Scripture Focus

1And David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said before Jonathan, What have I done? what is mine iniquity? and what is my sin before thy father, that he seeketh my life?
2And he said unto him, God forbid; thou shalt not die: behold, my father will do nothing either great or small, but that he will shew it me: and why should my father hide this thing from me? it is not so.
3And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.
4Then said Jonathan unto David, Whatsoever thy soul desireth, I will even do it for thee.
1 Samuel 20:1-4

Biblical Context

David fears Saul's pursuit and questions his own guilt. Jonathan responds with steadfast loyalty and promises to help.

Neville's Inner Vision

David's flight and his cry about what he has done mark the mind in alarm. In Neville's light, Naioth is not a place but a mental air where you feel safe; Saul's hunt is the belief that your life energy is endangered by old stories. Jonathan's reply is the inner ally within, the loyalty that refuses to accept death's permission. The scene where Jonathan speaks privately shows you that your higher self knows the whole truth: you have found grace in your own eyes. The line that there is but a step between life and death is seen as a misreading of your state of consciousness; the step is a transition, not a distance. You can revise this moment by dwelling in the awareness that you are already protected by the light of your inner Jonathan. So, you can assume the state that fulfills David's desire: loyal protection, clear purpose, life where fear ruled dissolves into immediate, vivid reality. Your imagination is the bridge; through it you enact the vow your heart truly desires.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Assume the role of Jonathan to David, and silently affirm that your soul's desires will be fulfilled; feel the pledged aid as already active and let fear dissolve. Then breathe into the sense that the desired state is present.
