Inner Sacrifice and Anointing
1 Samuel 16:3-5 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read 1 Samuel 16 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Samuel is directed to Bethlehem to anoint the man God names, and the people are called to sanctify themselves as part of the sacred ritual.
Neville's Inner Vision
To Samuel's journey is not a relocation of a man but a movement of consciousness. The phrase 'I will show thee whom I name' speaks to the inner I AM naming a state of awareness, not a fleshly candidate. Bethlehem stands for your current center of awareness where the sacred acts occur. The trembling elders symbolize fears born of separation from the divine idea; sanctifying them is the inner purification the altar of attention requires. When Samuel says, 'Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD,' he declares that the inner self comes in peace to the altar of awareness. Sanctify yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice means purifying inner dispositions—revising thoughts, feelings, and beliefs—to be present to the higher calling. As you hear the directive to anoint the one I name, you recognize that every noble trait you admire exists as a state of consciousness within you. The anointing is realizing that you are the I AM here and now, appointed to govern your inner kingdom.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and declare, I am the I AM here; sanctify my inner state and call forth the quality I name as my own. See it in symbol and feel it present now.
