Inner Obedience and Divine Regret
1 Samuel 15:11-12 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read 1 Samuel 15 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
God declares regret that Saul did not obey, Samuel grieves and prays all night, and Saul’s morning report shows outer actions reflecting inner disobedience.
Neville's Inner Vision
Saul stands for a state of consciousness that has turned away from the inner directive and so from life’s flow. When the text says, 'It repenteth me,' hear the I AM as the inner awareness noticing a deviation from truth in your outer life. Samuel’s night of crying is the mind catching itself in misperception, a storm of thought that seeks alignment with the inner law. The morning report of Saul’s Carmel and Gilgal shows how outer appearances can march in a direction away from the center of power. The remedy is not more effort in the outer world, but a revision of your inner state. You revise by assuming that the inner command has been fulfilled and by feeling that truth as real. In imagination you stand at the center where obedience exists and let that feeling permeate your entire being. When your inner state remains loyal to the command, the outer scene begins to harmonize with that truth. The moment of regret thus becomes a compass pointing you back to the inner kingdom, where true authority is affirmed.
Practice This Now
Imaginative_act: In a quiet moment, declare, 'I have obeyed the inner command in every part of my life,' and feel the relief wash through you. Visualize your inner I AM restoring power at the center and the outer world reflecting that obedience.
