Inner Law, Outer Order
1 Peter 2:13-14 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read 1 Peter 2 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The passage instructs believers to submit to every human ordinance for the Lord's sake; rulers exist to punish the evildoer and to praise the good.
Neville's Inner Vision
Submission here is not submission to persons but to the governing order of God within your own consciousness. The 'ordinance of man' becomes a pattern of thought and circumstance that calls you to align with the I AM. The king or governors are not external tyrants but inner governors—impulses and habits set by your divine mind—to discipline evildoing and to celebrate well-doing. When you imagine yourself under this inner administration, you do not yield to fear but to the certainty that your state of consciousness governs your world. Obedience is an act of fidelity to your higher Self: you revise rebellious beliefs by assuming you already move in harmony with a benevolent, orderly order that originates in God. As you hold this view, outer conditions reflect it: you find yourself acting with steadiness, accountability, and encouragement of what is good. The authorities are guides programmed into your consciousness to keep you on the path of integrity, praising the good you awaken within.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: In a quiet moment, close your eyes and imagine the inner governor seated within your chest; affirm, 'I am governed by divine order.' Feel your responses align with calm, obedient conduct.
