Laying Aside Malice: Inner Purity
1 Peter 2:1 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read 1 Peter 2 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Peter tells believers to lay aside malice, guile, hypocrisies, envies, and evil speech. He points to an inner cleansing that must precede outward conduct.
Neville's Inner Vision
Your verse speaks not of forces outside you but of states you inhabit in consciousness. Malice, guile, hypocrisies, envies, and evil speaking are not persons to conquer but habits of mind you have believed you are. Laying aside these conditions is a decision of the I AM: you refuse to identify with them and you revise your inner scenery. When you dwell in the knowing that you are the God who is aware, you discover that you can drop the old man and awaken as the pure, truthful self. Purity and integrity become your new characteristic; holiness and separation from the needless noise of complaint arise as you maintain the belief that you are eternally untouched by such poisons. The more you regard your consciousness as the sole impresser, the more these traits recede, and your obedience and faithfulness to the higher self become natural. Remember, the world you call outer is your inner state projected; therefore, to purify the outer, begin by choosing a new inner state and wearing it like a garment.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Close your eyes and assume the state of your purified I AM now. Let thoughts of malice fall away and speak from that sacred Self, treating others with honesty and kindness.
