Within you, this letter describes a state of consciousness, not a distant event. Heaviness and manifold temptations are the inward movements by which your consciousness is pressed to prove itself. The trial of faith, being more precious than gold that perisheth, means your unwavering sense of I AM—the inner awareness that you are God in expression—is of greater value than any outward wealth. When it is tried with fire, it burns away illusions and leaves a condition in which you are found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ—an inner appearance of the Christ within you, the awakening of your true nature. Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory translates to trusting the unseen Christ and feeling joy because belief has become certainty. Receiving the end of your faith, the salvation of your souls, is the realization that salvation is the shift in consciousness itself—the soul waking to its divine origin.
