Girding the Mind to Holiness

1 Peter 1:13-16 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 Peter 1 in context

Scripture Focus

13Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
14As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
15But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
16Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
1 Peter 1:13-16

Biblical Context

Peter urges believers to prepare their minds, be sober, and hope for grace, living obediently and holy in all conduct.

Neville's Inner Vision

Think of the verse as a map of the inner state. Peter bids you gird up the loins of your mind—this is not a distant command but a shift in your awareness. Be sober, not as a deny-deny regimen, but as clear, watchful attention to what you are imagining moment to moment. The revelation of Jesus Christ is the turning on of grace through your I AM presence; it comes when your consciousness ceases to identify with old impulses and instead aligns with the divine idea within you. As obedient children you are not fashioning yourselves after ignorance; you are choosing a new inner fashion—holiness in every thought, word, and deed. The Father’s call: be holy, for I am holy, becomes your internal standard and your current atmosphere. The inner change precedes outward change; the grace you hope for is the grace you live in now as you assume the reality of your true nature. Practice: assume you are already holy; revise old cravings; feel the truth of your I AM shining through your daily acts.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and assume you are already holy. Feel the I AM's light revise a current impulse into obedience.
