Inner Idols and the I Am

1 Kings 9:9 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 Kings 9 in context

Scripture Focus

9And they shall answer, Because they forsook the LORD their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath the LORD brought upon them all this evil.
1 Kings 9:9

Biblical Context

The passage states that turning away from the LORD and embracing other gods leads to trouble, as the LORD allows the consequences of that inner choice.

Neville's Inner Vision

Verse 9:9 reveals the inner law: 'they forsook the LORD their God' and took hold of 'other gods.' In Neville's language, God is the I AM within you—your unchanging awareness. The 'fathers'—the liberty you once walked in, brought forth by awakening from the Egypt of limitation—are cited to remind you that power is found in remembrance, not in outward forms. When you identify with 'other gods'—desires, possessions, opinions, or status—you worship a fragment of your own mind. The result is not punishment from an external deity but the inner disturbance of a mind split from its source. The remedy is simple: return to the assumption that you are the I AM, that the LORD within has delivered you and sustains you now. Dwell in that reality, revise any thought of lack or displacement, and feel it real. As you do, the sense of separation dissolves, the idols lose their power, and harmony returns as the natural state of your consciousness.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Close your eyes and assume right now I AM the LORD of this consciousness. Revise any belief in idols by silently declaring I am one with the I AM, and feel that presence filling your mind until it becomes your felt reality.
