Read 1 Kings 8 in context

Scripture Focus

12Then spake Solomon, The LORD said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.

1 Kings 8:12-13

Biblical Context

Solomon states that God dwells in thick darkness and that a temple has been built for Him to inhabit forever.

Neville's Inner Vision

Solomon says the LORD would dwell in thick darkness, and that a house has been built for Him to abide there forever. In Neville’s psychology, this is not a matter of bricks, but of your inner state. The thick darkness is the unborn, unlit moment within consciousness where the I AM occurs to itself. God is not 'out there' but the awareness that refuses to be trapped by fear or form. When you accept that you are the I AM, you are inviting God to dwell in the space where attention tends to wander—the still, unseen chamber of your mind. The temple built is your discipline of thought and feeling, a settled place where attention remains steady and perceives life from the Presence rather than the drama. The phrase 'forever' becomes your willingness to inhabit this fact as your normal state, here and now. So the verse is not about architecture but about consciousness—you choosing to inhabit the thick darkness with the awareness that you are the I AM, and that Presence is your home.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and declare, 'The LORD dwells in the thick darkness of my mind; I am the I AM, aware of His Presence now.' Then rest in that felt reality for a minute, revising any sense of doubt.
