The King's Inner Officers
1 Kings 4:5 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read 1 Kings 4 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The verse lists three roles: Azariah over the officers, Zabud as principal officer, and the king’s friend. It presents a picture of organized authority within the king’s household.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within every man there is a royal court of faculties, and this verse simply names the officers of that court. Azariah over the officers is you, the awareness that assigns roles to your thoughts, beliefs, and feelings. Zabud, the principal officer, is the central directive of discernment—the mental skill that sorts appearances from truth and keeps the memory of your aim intact. And the king's friend is the I AM within you, the intimate ally who stands with the king and returns him to his throne when the day wears on. The Kingdom of God is not out there in a distant kingdom, but in the orderly government you establish in your own consciousness. When you imagine these offices rightly in your mind, you stop leaving decisions to chance and begin to rule your inner state with clarity. Work and vocation, wisdom and discernment all spring from this inner governance. The impression of authority is a feeling you cultivate, a conviction that your inner rulers are indeed present and operative in every moment.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and appoint Azariah over your thoughts, Zabud as central discernment, and the king's friend as I AM; then feel the throne of your consciousness settle.
