1 Kings 14:30-31

Biblical Context

The passage chronicles a long conflict between Rehoboam and Jeroboam and notes Rehoboam's death and Abijam's accession.

Neville's Inner Vision

Within you, the two kings are expressions of your states of consciousness. Jeroboam is the impulse to govern by ego-driven appearances; Rehoboam is the heart of true authority anchored in the I AM—the inner king. The ongoing war between them is your mind wrestling with who truly rules. Rehoboam’s death and burial in the city of David signals the passing of one old ruling image and the opening of space for a higher order. Abijam, the son who reigns, stands for a new alignment—the inner king born from the seeing that God’s kingdom is within and not beyond. This is the Kingdom of God as your present awareness, a reigning awareness that does not compete with itself but chooses, moment by moment, to recognize itself as I AM. When you stop feeding the Jeroboam fantasy with fear and simply feel the I AM, the old quarrels lose their charge and the dream of conflict dissolves. The succession is your inner transformation: the old king finishes his days, and the true king begins to reign in your daily experience.

Practice This Now

Practice: Assume the feeling that the I AM now reigns in you. When conflict arises, revise it by affirming, 'The kingdom within is established; I am the ruler of my experiences.'
