Inner War, Inner Kingdom

1 Kings 14:30 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 Kings 14 in context

Scripture Focus

30And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all their days.
1 Kings 14:30

Biblical Context

1 Kings 14:30 records a continued war between two rulers. In Neville's reading, this war mirrors a persistent inner conflict over who should govern one's life.

Neville's Inner Vision

Beloved, remember that you are not divided; the war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam is your mind at odds with itself about who shall rule. In this scripture, the outward battle is but the sign of an inward movement—two states of consciousness contending for the throne of your life. Rehoboam stands for the accustomed, the old decree of authority you have identified with; Jeroboam embodies rebellion, the restless impulse to go elsewhere, to fragment the one life. Yet the Father of your being, the I AM, is the true king, silently ruling right where you breathe. When you identify with the I AM, the two contend less, and the kingdom becomes your present, peaceful awareness. The war can endure only as long as you imagine you are a split person; dissolution comes with the realization that you are one mind acting as a single governor. Hold the awareness that the throne is occupied by the one ruler you are, and the signs of conflict soften into harmony.

Practice This Now

Assume the end: you are the sole ruler of your mind. Sit quietly, repeat: 'There is only one king in me—the I AM,' feel the throne established, and sense the inner conflict yielding to harmony.
