Brass Shields, Inner Guard

1 Kings 14:27 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 Kings 14 in context

Scripture Focus

27And king Rehoboam made in their stead brasen shields, and committed them unto the hands of the chief of the guard, which kept the door of the king's house.
1 Kings 14:27

Biblical Context

Rehoboam replaced gold shields with brass and entrusted them to the captain of the guard at the king’s door.

Neville's Inner Vision

Rehoboam’s act is a parable of consciousness, not metal. The shields symbolize outward signs of protection that people trust as security; brass signals a substitute, a lesser certainty born of appearances. By giving these shields to the chief of the guard at the door, the scene points to where attention is kept: at the threshold of the king’s house—the entry to your inner kingdom. In Neville’s view, the king is your higher self, the I AM that you are. The door is the boundary of your own being. Relying on external symbols means allowing circumstance to guard your peace. The invitation is to revise this inwardly: envision replacing the brass with the gold of realization, and let the guard be your I AM awareness guarding the door. Do not seek protection in material signs; instead feel that you are the consciousness that creates reality, always safe when you acknowledge the I AM within.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes, hand the brass shields to the guard, and affirm 'I AM' is the only security of my inner kingdom. Feel the door guarded by awareness and the outer signs fade into symbolic light.
