Jeroboam and the Inner Kingdom

1 Kings 12:26-27 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 Kings 12 in context

Scripture Focus

26And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now shall the kingdom return to the house of David:
27If this people go up to do sacrifice in the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, then shall the heart of this people turn again unto their lord, even unto Rehoboam king of Judah, and they shall kill me, and go again to Rehoboam king of Judah.
1 Kings 12:26-27

Biblical Context

Jeroboam fears the kingdom will return to David if the people go to Jerusalem to sacrifice, so he devises a local worship system to keep hold of power.

Neville's Inner Vision

Jeroboam's fear is not about geography but about a state of consciousness that refuses to recognize the one power and presence within. In his mind, the kingdom risks dissolving into the house of David; his solution is not faith, but strategy to keep the people's heart tethered to his own rule. Neville reading sees 'the kingdom' as your own inner sense of right order, and 'Jeroboam' as a false self, the egoic impulse to separate sacred space from the Presence of God. When he says 'they shall kill me,' he proclaims the illusion of scarcity and danger; yet the real danger is a divided awareness. The true worship is not the external shrine but the alignment of your I AM with all creation. The verse calls you to notice how fear of unity can drive you to create idols of convenience; but your conviction that God is present within dissolves such fears. By shifting your assumption to the feeling that the inner temple is secure and the heart of the people (your own) remains loyal to the Presence, you awaken to the Kingdom of God within. The moment you acknowledge 'the kingdom is within,' Jeroboam's protective schemes fade, and the heart turns toward the living king inside.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Close your eyes and assume the consciousness 'the kingdom is within.' Feel the Presence of God as the sole ruler; revise it, affirm Presence of God, and anchor true worship as inner kingdom.
