1 Kings 12:18

Biblical Context

Israel stones Adoram, the overseer of the tribute; he dies. Rehoboam hastens to Jerusalem.

Neville's Inner Vision

Your inner Israel stones Adoram because the old business of tribute and external control is refused by the living consciousness that you are becoming. Adoram, over the tribute, is the outward tax of fear’s rule—the voice that says, 'Obey the law or be crushed.' When the people stone him, it is the inner rejection of that mechanical order by the one who senses a deeper authority. Rehoboam’s swift ride to Jerusalem is the ego running to the inner city of peace, the seat of the Kingdom within. Notice that Jerusalem stands not on the map but in your own awareness: the place where God, the I AM, rules without violence through coercion. The event is not punishment, but a mirror: the state you hold in consciousness determines the weather of your life; judgment arises when you confuse outer events with your inner nature. The Kingdom of God appears as you revise your sense of authority toward loving, present awareness. The law you follow becomes the quiet law of stillness within; old commands fall away when you recognize that you are the command.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and assume the inner governor—I AM—now; revise the scene by seeing the messenger dissolve into peace, and feel it real.
