Inner Heat of the I Am
1 Kings 1:1-4 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read 1 Kings 1 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
David is old and cold; his court seeks warmth from a young virgin, Abishag, who serves but does not awaken the king to know her as part of his own being.
Neville's Inner Vision
In Neville's light, David represents the I AM within a consciousness grown cold. The 'heat' must come not from coverlets or another person, but from a renewed imaginative state. The command to seek a young virgin symbolizes inviting a fresh, vivid state of consciousness—a new image, a new feeling—that would awaken vitality. Abishag stands as the vivid idea or quality sought to warm the heart; yet the line 'but the king knew her not' reveals that the old sense of self has not yet recognized this warmth as its own. The spiritual practice is to revise: the warmth is already within, and the new state can be welcomed as part of your existing self. When you turn to the I AM and affirm, 'I AM warmth,' you allow the renewed imagination to integrate. The king’s recognition of the warmth comes not by external allure, but by the inner assertion that heat belongs to the I AM and is now being realized in consciousness.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Close your eyes and affirm 'I AM warmth now,' envisioning a new, gentle presence filling your chest. Feel the heat rise as the I AM embraces you.
