The Inner Witness Within

1 John 5:9-10 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 John 5 in context

Scripture Focus

9If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.
10He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
1 John 5:9-10

Biblical Context

God’s testimony about His Son is greater than any human testimony. Believing in the Son brings the witness within you; those who do not believe reject the record God gave.

Neville's Inner Vision

Notice that the witness is not a verdict from without but a living state of consciousness you can choose. The 'witness of God' is the inner conviction that your I AM affirms the Son’s record within you. To lean on men's testimony is to forget the greater testimony you already carry; to believe the Father’s witness is to align with your true nature. The 'record' God gave of His Son is the immediate recognition that you are one with the divine image in expression. Believing on the Son is not a matter of external assent alone, but a feeling-state you maintain now. When you hold this inner certainty, the outer circumstances begin to respond to the energy you inhabit—your faith shapes the events you experience. You are not asking God to believe in you; you are choosing to live from the internal witness that you already bear. The Son within you is the living proof, and your freedom lies in choosing that awareness over any contrary report.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and assume you already believe the Son's record; feel the inner witness as certainty and quietly declare, 'I believe the record that God gave of His Son is true within me now.'
