Inner Light of 1 John 5:19-20

1 John 5:19-20 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 John 5 in context

Scripture Focus

19And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.
20And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
1 John 5:19-20

Biblical Context

John states believers know they belong to God while the world remains under wickedness; Christ has come to give understanding so we may know the true God and reside in Him, which is eternal life.

Neville's Inner Vision

Know this: the verse does not plead to beg for God outside myself; it declares that I am of God, and the world’s noise is but the surface of my outer state. When it says the whole world lieth in wickedness, I see that as a script of appearances in my present condition, not the truth of my being. The coming of the Son of God is the awakening of my inner understanding, the light that makes me know him that is true. I am in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ; this means I am in the Christ within, the true God, and eternal life. The true God is not distant; he is my I AM, the awareness that I am. To live is to live in this consciousness, and all else is only reflection. Therefore I rest in the realization that I know I belong to God, and I let the inner Christ govern my life.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Close your eyes and assume the feeling 'I am of God; I am in the Christ within; I know the true God.' Repeat until that inner reality feels solid, then live from that awareness.
