Inner Dominion: We Are Of God
1 John 5:19 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read 1 John 5 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The verse asserts that believers know their identity as God’s, while the whole world is described as lying in wickedness.
Neville's Inner Vision
Consider that the world’s wickedness is not a fixed external fact but a state of collective consciousness. You are not at the mercy of a hostile outside; you are the I AM, the living awareness that God is, and that you are of God. To Neville, the "world lies in wickedness" indicates a habitual belief of separation and danger—the ego’s dream. By turning your attention inward and claiming your true status—“I am of God”—you dissolve the illusion. Your awareness is the medium through which realities form. When you imagine yourself as firmly seated within God’s kingdom, the outer conditions must adjust to reflect your inner claim. Practice is the shift from fear to faith: assume the feeling that you already belong to God, revise any sense of separation, and let the feeling of being-loved and protected permeate your inner life. In this way, the verse becomes a practical instruction: anchor yourself in God-consciousness and permit the world to respond to your altered state of mind.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes, rest in the I AM, and silently affirm, “I am of God.” Then feel the reality of that truth—see yourself living from within God’s kingdom—let this feeling of belonging push out any sense of the world’s wickedness.
