Inner Security of the I Am

1 John 5:18-19 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 John 5 in context

Scripture Focus

18We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
19And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.
1 John 5:18-19

Biblical Context

The passage states that those born of God do not sin and are kept by God, while the world remains in wickedness.

Neville's Inner Vision

To Neville, the phrase born of God denotes a state of consciousness, not a moral record. When you know yourself as the I AM, sin loses its grip because you identify with the divine seed within. The wicked one cannot touch you because you live from that inner source, not from outward appearances. The world lying in wickedness represents the external dream of fear and limitation, but it cannot reach the inner believer who rests in God. To 'keepeth himself' is not effortful virtue but a return to the inner fact of being, a steady immersion in the conscious union with God. If you dwell in this inner state, you begin to act from a reality that transcends failed conditions; your imagination operates as the cause, and the world becomes its effect. Your safety is the felt presence of the I AM, which shields you from identification with the old self and harmonizes outer life with the truth of your divine nature.

Practice This Now

Assume the state of being born of God and kept by the I AM; close your eyes, feel that safety as real, and hold it for a minute, letting it reshape your next moment.
