Inner Guard of God-Born Awareness
1 John 5:18 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read 1 John 5 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The verse states that those born of God do not sin and that they remain under protection. It says the wicked one cannot touch them.
Neville's Inner Vision
Think of the verse as a description of your inner state, not a rule about external conduct. To be born of God is to be born of the I AM that you are; sin, in that light, is a dream unless you align with God-consciousness. The verse says you do not sin because you are established in your true nature; the 'wicked one' cannot touch you because touches occur in the space of belief, and belief shifts as you behold your true birth. Your work is to keep yourself by remaining loyal to the awareness that you are not the thought you entertain but the thinker and the territory in which thoughts arise. The self that is born of God guards its life by refusing to consent to anything that contradicts your divine birth. You are the ground of being, not a victim of circumstance; what happens in the dream is a reflection of your inner state, and you can re-script it by assuming the truth of God within you. When you persist in this awareness, sin fades, protection becomes your atmosphere, and the wicked one loses his power.
Practice This Now
Assume the truth of your God-born nature now: say, 'I am born of God; I am kept by God,' and feel that protection filling your chest as you rest in this awareness.
