Inner Light of Love

1 John 4:7-8 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 John 4 in context

Scripture Focus

7Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
8He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
1 John 4:7-8

Biblical Context

Love comes from God. Those who love are born of God and know God; to deny love is to deny God.

Neville's Inner Vision

Beloved, these lines announce that love is not merely an emotion but the very nature of God within you. When you love, you are acknowledging the I AM that is awake in you, the living proof that you are born of God and know God. If you feel otherwise, you are simply forgetting your true state; God is love, and to deny love is to deny your own God-state. In Neville's language, the world you observe is your state of consciousness. Therefore, to embody this truth you must assume the state of being what you wish to live: that you are love, that you know God, that you belong to a unity where others mirror your divine Self. Do not persuade with argument; revise and feel it-real until the sense of separation dissolves and unity arises. By dwelling in that I AM as love, your neighbor ceases to be other and becomes kin, and the community is born of this shared God-state.

Practice This Now

Assume the simple sentence, I am love, born of God, and dwell in that feeling until it feels real. When judgment arises, revise it with the conviction of unity.
