Inner Spirit of Truth Within

1 John 4:2-6 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 John 4 in context

Scripture Focus

2Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
5They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
6We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
1 John 4:2-6

Biblical Context

The passage identifies the Spirit of God by those who confess Jesus is come in the flesh, contrasts those of the world with those of God, and asserts the believer's victory because the greater One lives in them.

Neville's Inner Vision

Within this writing you are not asked to chase some distant power; the Spirit of God is the waking I AM already resident in you. To confess that Jesus is come in the flesh is to acknowledge that the Christ-life now walks in your body as your daily life. The world’s voice—its noise, its claims, its separate-self stories—would have you forget this presence; yet the antichrist is simply the belief that you are apart from God. When you affirm, 'The Christ in me is awake; the I AM is present now,' you align with the greater Power within you. This is why you overcome 'them'—not by fighting outside, but by remaining conscious of the indwelling God. The Spirit of truth flows through your thoughts, feelings, and actions as you dwell in this inner reality; the Spirit of error fades as you refuse to consent to separation. Your awareness becomes the world you inhabit because your inner state governs outer events. Let the realization of God in you be your steady present-tense fact and watch life obey the inner declaration.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Assume the state, 'I am the Spirit of God within me; Christ is come in the flesh in my life,' and feel that presence now. Hold that conviction for a minute and allow your day to reflect it.
