Inner Love vs Fear: 1 John 4:18

1 John 4:18 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 John 4 in context

Scripture Focus

18There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
1 John 4:18

Biblical Context

The verse says there is no fear where love reigns; fear is driven out by the fullness of love, and to fear is to lack perfection in love.

Neville's Inner Vision

In my language, love is a state of consciousness you occupy, not a condition you obtain. Fear exists only as a false image when you identify with lack and separation; perfect love is the awakened state in which you know yourself as I AM, the all-knowing presence that casts out every shadow. When you dwell in love as your immediate reality, fear loses its grip because torment cannot thrive where awareness rests in wholeness. The line 'there is no fear in love' invites you to stop chasing outcomes and instead assume the truth of your being: you are loved, you are complete, you are the I AM in expression. As you continue to revise the sense of self away from fear and toward love, the old tense vibrations fade and you awaken to a fearless ease that remains regardless of appearances. The instruction is not denial of circumstance but a shift of state: perfect love becomes your governing consciousness, and fear must follow your new declared reality.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and repeat 'I am loved' as a present fact, feel the warmth in your chest, imagine a scene where fear would arise and watch it dissolve in the light of your I AM.
