Dwelling in the Inner God

1 John 4:13-16 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 John 4 in context

Scripture Focus

13Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
14And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
15Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
16And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
1 John 4:13-16

Biblical Context

These verses affirm that God dwells within us by His Spirit, and we dwell in Him. Those who confess Jesus as the Son of God dwell in love, and love dwells in God and in them.

Neville's Inner Vision

Here the apostle shows that the Father’s presence is not a distant event but the constant state of your consciousness. God is not off in a sky but as the I AM within you; the Spirit He gives is your own awareness, the living current you can feel right now. When you acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God, you are simply naming the truth that your being is inseparable from God—God in you and you in God. To dwell in love is to dwell in the source of your life; love is the very ether of your inner atmosphere, and as you rest in love, God rests in you. The saving act, then, is not an occasional mercy but the verifiable tone of your mind, the inner recognition that you are already loved, already saved, already one with the Father. So the verse invites you to revise any sense of separation and to treat every moment as the manifestation of divine union.

Practice This Now

Sit quietly and, with eyes closed, assume the state: 'I am dwelling in God, and God dwells in me.' Feel the Spirit within as awareness, and let the image of loving unity fill your inner space.
