Inner Spirit Test
1 John 4:1-3 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read 1 John 4 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
John asks Beloved not to believe every spirit but to test them. True Spirit is known by confessing that Jesus is come in the flesh; those who deny it are not of God.
Neville's Inner Vision
Think of 'spirit' as a state of consciousness, a vibration of your inner self. When you say, 'the Christ is come in the flesh,' you are not speaking of a historical event but of the inner realization that your I AM consciousness has clothed itself in human form. The many voices that speak for doubt are not enemies outside you but reactions of your own mind's misreading of reality. Test every 'spirit' by the standard you accept for yourself: does it awaken faith, unity, and the sense that you and the Father are one? The true Spirit animates you into Christ-consciousness in action—love, courage, truth, integrity—and any voice that denies the fleshly manifestation of God inside you is an antichrist within your own mind. The moment you decide that the inner truth is present and real, you reframe the world outside as a projection of your inner state. You do not fight 'spirits' but refine your awareness until your inner confession becomes your outward experience.
Practice This Now
In a quiet moment, assume the I AM as the living Christ within you and feel it as real. Revise any doubt by affirming, 'The Christ within is come in the flesh now.'
