Deed Over Words: Inner Love

1 John 3:18 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 John 3 in context

Scripture Focus

18My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
1 John 3:18

Biblical Context

The verse urges that love must be shown by actions and truth, not words alone. Genuine love proves itself through deed.

Neville's Inner Vision

Beloved, the command translates you from the realm of words to the realm of being. You are not asked to fix the outside world with polite phrases; you are asked to dwell in the inner state called love, which the Christ within bears as its truth. In this sense, 'deed and truth' means the body follows the burning conviction of your mind. Your neighbor is not a separate other; they are a living sign of your own decision to act from the I AM that you are. When you feel for a moment that you cannot love, revise: 'I now know I am the very act of love in motion; I am choosing to act as if this truth were already fulfilled.' Do not seek gratitude as proof; let the inner conviction be enough, and let your deeds spring from that conviction. Imagination becomes your workshop: see the deed fulfilled in advance and act accordingly, and you will discover that truth and action harmonize, and love becomes your living atmosphere. The revelation is simple: the love you honor outwardly has its source in the inner awareness that God is I.

Practice This Now

Choose one person today. In your inner conversation, assume you have already loved them through a small deed, then perform one concrete outward act that reflects that inner decision.
