Compassion as Inner Wealth

1 John 3:17 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 John 3 in context

Scripture Focus

17But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
1 John 3:17

Biblical Context

The verse warns that having worldly goods yet withholding compassion from a brother in need shows the love of God is not present in you.

Neville's Inner Vision

Here is the key: your brother's need exposes the state of your consciousness. The world's goods are not proof of love when they sit in a closed heart. In Neville fashion, I tell you that God is not out there apart from you, but the I AM within you styled as your awareness. When you see need and withhold compassion, you are simply imagining lack; your inner God is refusing to circulate through you. To heal, assume the feeling of abundance and the living presence that can meet that need. Visualize yourself supplying what is needed, and dwell in the certainty that you already possess the power to give. In that moment, the "love of God" is not earned; it is demonstrated as your inner mood and imagination become the truth you accept. As you persist in the feeling of generosity, you awaken the inner economy: compassion becomes your natural state, and the world reflects that now.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Close your eyes and imagine a brother in need as clearly as you would a scene in a dream; then affirm, I AM the supply, and feel the compassion flowing to meet that need. In the next hour, let your actions and choices reflect that inner image.
