Light, Love, Inner Unity

1 John 2:9-10 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 John 2 in context

Scripture Focus

9He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
10He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
1 John 2:9-10

Biblical Context

John contrasts two states: claiming light while despising others hides you in darkness; loving your brother keeps you in the light and prevents any stumbling.

Neville's Inner Vision

Your 'brother' is not separate; he is an image of your inner state. To claim you are in the light while cherishing a grudge is to refuse the I AM that you are. The light you seek is awareness, and hatred is a shadow you cast upon your own mind. The stumbling is a reflection of an inner misalignment--an un-forgiven suspicion that you are apart from God and your neighbor. The cure is a deliberate revision: assume the feeling that you are one with all you meet; feel the love flow from the I AM through your heart, blessing the other as yourself. In that assumption, you remain in the light, and no occurrence can unsettle you. Hold the image of unity, repeat I and my brother are one, and let the inner state do the rest. This is how to awaken to the truth John reveals: light equals consciousness, love removes stumbling by uniting all within your own being.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Assume the state of oneness with the brother now; bless him in your mind, feel the light flowing through you, and dwell in the feeling that you are one.
