Now Shineth: The Inner Light

1 John 2:8 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 John 2 in context

Scripture Focus

8Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.
1 John 2:8

Biblical Context

The verse declares that darkness is past and the true light now shines, inviting you to awaken to your inner radiance.

Neville's Inner Vision

Viewed through Neville’s lens, the so-called new commandment is a fresh act of consciousness, not a ritual. Darkness represents your former state of separation, fear, and limitation; the true light is the living I AM—the awareness you already are—that now shines forth in you and through you. The commandment then is simply to acknowledge this light and to live from it, rather than chase external rules. When you affirm that the light has already arrived, your thoughts, feelings, and choices begin to align with truth, love, and harmony, and your world rearranges to reflect that inner radiance. The past dissolves in the present recognition of who you are: the light shining, not the darkness looming. This is not time-bound; it is a reorientation of consciousness. As you persist in the conviction that you are the light, you enact it in action, speech, and relationships, and others respond to the aura of your inner peace. Remember: the inner light now shines because you have awakened to the I AM within you.

Practice This Now

Act: Sit quietly, assume the state of I AM within you. Say softly, 'The darkness is past; the true light now shines in me.' Feel the light as a warm, expanding presence in your chest that gradually fills your whole being.
