Knowing God Through Inner Obedience

1 John 2:3-5 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 John 2 in context

Scripture Focus

3And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
4He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
1 John 2:3-5

Biblical Context

The passage teaches that genuine knowledge of God is evidenced by keeping His commandments. Claiming to know Him while ignoring His commands marks one as a liar, and the love of God is perfected in those who keep His word, confirming they are in Him.

Neville's Inner Vision

To know God, in the Neville sense, is not a title you acquire; it is a state you dwell in by aligning your inner life with divine law. The verses tell us that true knowing is evidenced by keeping the commandments, not by claiming you know while refusing to obey. When you say, 'I know Him' but refuse His inner commands, you are living a lie—the truth is not in you because your inner pattern is out of tune with the Word. Yet when you keep His word, the love of God is perfected in you, and you discover that you are in Him. This is a psychological truth: God is not somewhere apart but the I AM within your awareness. By obedience you tune your consciousness to the inner rhythm of life, and the state you inhabit becomes the state in which you live: you feel included in Him, you act from truth, and your life reflects that inner alignment. The outer events are secondary; the inner revision and feeling of reality make them follow the new posture of your mind.

Practice This Now

Assume the state: 'I keep His commandments.' Feel the alignment now and observe how your choices begin to reflect truth and love.
