Walking in the Inner Light

1 John 1:6-10 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 John 1 in context

Scripture Focus

6If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
1 John 1:6-10

Biblical Context

The passage warns that true fellowship with God requires walking in the light; denying sin is self-deception, while confession brings forgiveness and cleansing, and claiming no sin declares God a liar.

Neville's Inner Vision

To John, darkness is not a place but a state of consciousness separated from the I AM you are. Walking in the light is returning to the one reality you already possess—the awareness of God within. When you dwell in that light, you experience true fellowship with your fellow expressions, for the sense of separation dissolves as you identify with your own divine nature. The 'blood of Jesus Christ' represents the cleansing power of recognition: as you revise doubtful beliefs about yourself, sin loses its grip and natural forgiveness flows. Saying you have no sin is a denial of truth and breeds inner contradiction; confession is not incrimination but a humble revision of misperceived self-image, inviting God's fidelity to restore wholeness. Remember, God’s word is an ever-present truth within, not an external command. When you align with the light, you align with reality itself, and your life becomes a lived fellowship with the divine and with others. The practical upshot: your inner state determines your outward experience, and forgiveness comes as you consistently return to awareness of your unity with the I AM.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and revise your sense of self: I am the light. Feel it real by dwelling in the felt sense of unity with God, and release the belief in sin as a misperception.
