1 John 1:5 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 John 1 in context

Scripture Focus

5This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
1 John 1:5

Biblical Context

1 John 1:5 declares that God is light and that in Him there is no darkness at all. It sets light as the standard of reality and purity.

Neville's Inner Vision

Think of 'God is light' as a description of your continuous, waking state of consciousness. Darkness is not an enemy but a misalignment of awareness; whenever you believe you are separate from the light, you contract. The verse invites you to rest in the fact that there is no shadow in the I AM, no fragment in pure awareness. When you dwell in that interior radiance—the awareness that you are the living likeness of this light—the scenes of fear, limitation, or error begin to dissolve. The world you see is the light you entertain, and thus all action becomes a manifestation of illumination rather than struggle. In Neville's terms, you are not pleading for light to enter; you are choosing to be the light, and the world reflects that decisive revision. So, keep your attention on the unshadowed I AM and allow any sense of darkness to recede as you affirm, 'I am the light of God in expression.'

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Assume the state 'I am the light' and feel it real; picture darkness retreating as you hold the awareness of the I AM shining through every facet of life.
