Willing Heart, Inner Gospel

1 Corinthians 9:17-18 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 Corinthians 9 in context

Scripture Focus

17For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.
18What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.
1 Corinthians 9:17-18

Biblical Context

Paul explains that true service arises from willingness, and the reward comes from correctly aligning with his dispensation of the gospel. He notes that preaching without charge safeguards the integrity of his power.

Neville's Inner Vision

Think of the verse as a map of your own inner economy. When you choose to do this thing willingly, you open a reservoir of reward because your state of consciousness has become aligned with the gospel—the living word of the I AM in you. If you resist, the dispensation still moves, but you step out of harmony and the gospel becomes an external duty rather than an expression of the one power. The dispensation is not a historical office but a law of mind: by dwelling in a ready, willing state, you express the gospel through every action, and the reward is a seamless, unforced expression. When you preach the gospel without charge, you are not denying supply but denying the belief that you are apart from it; wealth follows the inner acceptance that God is the source of all function. Your power rests not in force but in faith; to abuse power is to forget the I AM, and to forget the I AM is to forget the kingdom within. The inner condition of willingness makes the outer world a faithful echo.

Practice This Now

Assume the state of willingness now: 'I am willing to fulfill my role; I am the dispensation of the gospel within me.' Feel the inner reward as already mine, and let your next action flow from that state without effort.
