Conscience Within the Temple

1 Corinthians 8:10-12 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 Corinthians 8 in context

Scripture Focus

10For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;
11And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
12But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
1 Corinthians 8:10-12

Biblical Context

Knowledge can empower freedom, but when this freedom influences others via appearance or action, the weak conscience is emboldened and the bond with Christ is wounded. True responsibility is to choose love over mere liberty.

Neville's Inner Vision

Consider the idol and the temple as states of consciousness. Knowledge is not a weapon but an energy to be clothed in love, lest it awaken fear in the weak. If I sit openly in the idol’s temple in imagination, I may trigger a response in the weaker self that seems to obey but is really clinging to separation. The true temple is the heart, and the I AM within me is the same I AM in every brother; to wound another is to wound God. When I revise my inner state and refuse to use freedom to wound, I am allowing the I AM to govern all actions. The Christ I meet in another is the I AM within me; therefore, I choose a state of love that converts knowledge into salvation for all. So I hold the vision of oneness, and my subtle choices become the means by which the inner law fulfills itself.

Practice This Now

Tonight, close your eyes and repeat: I AM the I AM; I choose freedom clothed in love, seeing the Christ in every brother and feeling the unity now.
