Love Over Knowledge: One God Within
1 Corinthians 8:1-4 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read 1 Corinthians 8 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The passage contrasts knowledge with love: knowledge can puff up, but love builds. True knowing comes from loving God, while idols are shown to be nothing.
Neville's Inner Vision
Beloved, the chapter tells us that knowledge can puff up, while charity—true love—edifies. Remember: knowledge without love is sterile image-making; the 'idol' in your life is a symbol for a belief in separation. The real you, the I AM that you are, knows nothing but the oneness of God. When you love God, the same I AM knows you back; you are known by God because your consciousness has turned toward the one source. Thus, idols are truly nothing, for there is no other God but the One. The eating of things offered to idols stands for the habit of feeding on appearances and opinions; yet when you awaken to love, you stop salting your sense with colors of the world and you align with the living unity. Your practical certainty is this: you are the awareness in which all images appear. Do not strive to master many gods of opinion—enter the quiet conviction that the One God reigns and you are known through that love.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and assume the identity of the I AM within; revise any claim of separation by affirming 'There is One God, and I am known by Him because I love Him.' Then feel that knowing as a tangible certainty.
