Charity Beyond Knowledge

1 Corinthians 8:1-3 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 Corinthians 8 in context

Scripture Focus

1Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
2And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
3But if any man love God, the same is known of him.
1 Corinthians 8:1-3

Biblical Context

The passage contrasts knowledge with charity: knowledge puffs up, while love edifies. Truly known by God is the one who loves Him.

Neville's Inner Vision

Knowledge puffs up the ego, but charity edifies the heart that God inhabits. When you declare you know something, you are measuring the surface; true knowing begins when you love God and surrender to the I AM within. The verse shows that being known by God is not earned by clever argument but by a heart kept faithful in love. I am not defined by external doctrines or opinions, but by the inner posture: I choose to love God, and in that choice I am seen by the I AM that animates my being. When I dwell in that love, the sense of separation between thinker and known dissolves, and the Self simply knows Itself as the beloved who loves. The moment I rest in that attitude, 'being known of Him' becomes a present reality, not a future credential. The only knowledge that endures is knowledge of God experienced as love, a knowledge that changes how I live, as I align my inner world with the divine awareness by which I am known.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Assume you are already known by God because you love Him; feel a warm recognition blooming in your chest and rest there for a minute, letting your self-conception revise.
