Charity Edifies Knowledge Within

1 Corinthians 8:1-2 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 Corinthians 8 in context

Scripture Focus

1Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
2And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
1 Corinthians 8:1-2

Biblical Context

Knowledge puffs up; charity edifies. If you think you know anything, you do not know it as you ought to know.

Neville's Inner Vision

From Neville's perspective, 'knowledge' is a state of consciousness that idols form when the self believes it stands apart from God. The true God is the I AM, the living awareness behind every thought. When you claim you know something, you are simply nursing a puffed-up sense of separateness; such knowing does not yet reach the fullness of being, for it is not united with love. The instruction of Paul is not a denial of learning but a correction: the moment I think I know, I should recall that real knowing is edified by charity, by the act of loving and serving. Therefore, true knowledge arises when my inner state is governed by the consciousness that I AM and that all beings are expressions of that one Life. If I think I know anything, I must let go of the assertion and allow the quiet unity to emerge, because love builds where pride would separate. Practically, I can revise by assuming I do not know; by feeling that my awareness is loving, and by letting that love edify the situation rather than my limited conclusions.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and assume the I AM as the living knowledge behind all thoughts; imagine expressing charity in a situation where you 'know' something, then feel the truth that love edifies more than argument.
